Transformative Research Challenge

Call for Expert Evaluators and Facilitators
for the 2025 TRC

The World Food Forum (WFF) Global Youth Action Initiative, facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is seeking Expert Evaluators and Facilitators to contribute to the 2025 Transformative Research Challenge (TRC). The TRC aims to stimulate youth-led research and innovation in sustainable development, focusing on transforming agrifood systems and ending hunger.

This year, the TRC will focus on five thematic prize categories, each addressing critical challenges in sustainable development:

  1. Forestry Innovation Prize: Co-hosted by the FAO Forestry Division (NFO)
  2. Gender Mainstreaming in the Eradication of Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) Prize: Co-hosted by the FAO PPR-GEP Secretariat
  3. Integrated Water Management for Food Security Prize: Co-hosted by the FAO Land and Water Division (NSL) and the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI)
  4. Nansen Programme Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF) Prize: Co-hosted by the FAO EAF-Nansen Programme and the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI)
  5. Sustainable Aquaculture Prize: Co-hosted by Shanghai Ocean University and the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI)

Facilitators will lead technical and interpersonal skills masterclasses, engaging participants in capacity-building sessions, building capacity in research methodology, presentation skills and other relevant areas.

  • Capacity development session (9 June to 9 July): Leading core competencies masterclasses.

Expert Evaluators will assess submissions in a two-phase evaluation process:

  • The first round (19 May – 2 June) will evaluate concept notes of up to two pages.
  • The second round (16 July – 23 July) will assess full research proposals of up to five pages.

We invite professionals with diverse expertise, strong communication skills and a passion for transformative solutions in agrifood systems to join us in empowering the next generation of innovators.
