The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be held from 14 to 23 July, featuring a three-day ministerial segment from 21 to 23 July, convened as part of the High-level Segment of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

This year’s theme—“Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for leaving no one behind”—underscores the urgent need for integrated, actionable approaches to accelerate progress across all SDGs.

Bringing together ministers, senior government officials, UN agencies, academia, civil society, youth, and other key stakeholders, the HLPF will serve as a global platform to assess SDG progress, foster multi-stakeholder collaboration, and reaffirm shared commitments to sustainable development.

In this context, on 21 July 2025, the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the UN, in collaboration with the World Food Forum (WFF)’s Global Youth Action Initiative, UN Women and the UN Major Group for Children and Youth, will host an official HLPF side event. The event will mark the launch of the youth recommendations paper: “Leveraging SDG 4 and SDG 8 to Empower Young Women in Agrifood Systems”.

The side event will serve as a platform to amplify youth-driven solutions and promote inclusive, community-based action toward sustainable agrifood systems. It will emphasize the critical leadership role of young women in shaping development pathways and reinforce the importance of consultative policymaking involving youth to support the  advancement of the 2030 Agenda.

Framed around the principle of meaningful youth engagement  o the event will emphasize the importance of youth leadership, particularly that of young women, in transforming policy into meaningful, community-level impact.

The session will begin with a welcome and an opening address framing the discussion on youth-led policymaking, featuring a keynote by UN Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs, Felipe Paullier.

The first segment will highlight the official launch of the youth recommendations paper, with reflections on the consultation process and the role of youth in the SDG review mechanisms.

The second segment, titled “From Policy to Action,” will feature an interactive dialogue on translating these recommendations into concrete action, including insights from the leader of the WFF Nepal Youth Chapter and other grassroots perspectives.
