About the WFF Qatar Youth Chapter

As a nation committed to food security and sustainability in the arid Gulf region, Qatar has been investing in innovative agrifood solutions to overcome challenges such as water scarcity, climate change and reliance on food imports. As reflected in the Qatar National Food Security Strategy 2030, the country is committed to lead transformative initiatives in the agrifood sector supporting the achievement of food security and sustainable development.

Recognizing the vital role of youth in shaping the future of agrifood systems, the WFF Qatar Youth Chapter was established to actively engage young leaders, farmers, researchers and entrepreneurs in driving agrifood innovation and sustainability. In alignment with the national goals outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030 and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)'s strategic framework, the chapter serves as a national agrifood platform for youth to convene, connect and collaborate on implementing context specific solutions that accelerate agrifood systems transformation in the country and globally.

Launch of the WFF Qatar Youth Chapter

The WFF Qatar Youth Chapter was launched during the 2024 WFF flagship event. The World Food Forum (WFF) Qatar National Youth Chapter was officially inaugurated in Qatar in February 2025, marking the first such chapter in the region. This milestone in youth-led sustainability efforts was achieved through collaboration with the Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Municipality, Qatar, and the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST).

The in-country launch held in the sidelines of the International Conference on Water and Food Security in the Face of Climate Change (WFCC 2025) was marked by the symbolic exchange of certificates between Kazuki Kitaoka, Director of the Office of Youth and Women of FAO; Hamad Al Hajri, Deputy Director at the Department of Food Security, Ministry of Municipality, Qatar; Dr Salem Al-Naemi, President of UDST and Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, Chairperson of the WFF Qatar Youth Chapter.

Objectives

With the vision of empowering youth to lead sustainable agrifood transformation in Qatar and beyond, the Chapter's mission and objectives are to:

  • Enhance youth engagement in agrifood systems through education, innovation and research, along with entrepreneurship;
  • Foster collaboration among youth, government entities, academic institutions and international organizations, including FAO;
  • Support national and global food security efforts by contributing to research, policy discussions and on-ground activities;
  • Advocate for sustainable solutions to address challenges in Food security, including food production, food safety, among others, in arid climates and the integration of advanced agricultural technologies.

Through its activities and collaborations, the WFF Qatar Youth Chapter is committed to shaping a resilient and sustainable food future for Qatar while contributing to regional and global agrifood systems transformation.
