Call for Case Studies: Youth engagement in climate-induced loss and damage in agrifood systems
The World Food Forum (WFF) Youth Initiative, in collaboration with the Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), is calling for case studies from youth, youth-led groups and organizations.
This call aims to collect locally grounded evidence and youth-led perspectives on climate-induced loss and damage in agrifood systems, with the objective of informing policy and financing discussions related to loss and damage under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

This call seeks to:
- Document loss and damage from climate-induced extreme events and slow-onset events with a focus on economic and/or non-economic losses and damages;
- Inform about challenges and gaps faced by youth, especially, Indigenous youth, young women and marginalized groups in accessing financial resources, technical guidance and institutional support needed to avert, minimize and address loss and damage in agrifood systems, including rebuilding local agrifood systems and communities;
- Showcase the role of youth in building community resilience and solutions to loss and damage;
- Collect and analyze youth-relevant policy and legislative examples, including those addressing access to climate finance, to inform a concise policy brief for decision-makers at international, regional and national levels; and
- Co-create a youth-centered guidance to inform policy and financing discussions related to loss and damage under the UNFCCC.
Requirements
- Case studies can be submitted in any UN language (English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic and Russian) and must not exceed 1500 words.
- This call aims to reflect youth-led and youth-supported initiatives and evidence across all regions. Please indicate clearly the region covered by your case study (Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Near East and North Africa, and North America)
- Case studies should focus on climate change-induced loss and damage affecting agrifood systems (agriculture, forestry, fisheries, aquaculture and related value chains), rural livelihoods, food security and nutrition, and natural resources.
- Submissions from Civil Society Organizations, Non-governmental Organizations, youth networks, community groups, Indigenous Peoples organizations, local experts, SIDS based organizations and researchers with youth-led or youth-coauthored contributions are highly encouraged.
Supporting materials
- Please attach high-quality photographs of loss and damage impacts at national and local levels and actions taken, if relevant (jpg or tiff), including full credit and copyright details. Ensure free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC) where applicable.
- If including graphs, figures or infographics, please provide them in .pdf or .ai format.
- Please provide additional resources, where available (links to websites, videos, policy documents, reports, blogs, social media campaigns, etc.).
Case study themes
All submissions will be classified under one of the following thematic areas (Please indicate only one primary theme):
- Economic losses and damages
- Non-economic losses and damages
- Displacement, mobility and changing livelihoods linked to loss and damage
- Youth-led action and innovation for loss and damage finance and policy

Structure of the case study
Please structure your submission according to the following four sections:
- Climate and socio-economic context and loss and damage impacts (max. 350 words)
Describe the climate events, their impacts and clearly distinguish between economic and non-economic losses and damages, including how different groups are affected. - Information about the youth initiative, organization or group (max. 150 words)
Provide details on the initiative, including objectives, target groups and geographic coverage. - Description of the initiative or action (max. 600 words)
Explain activities, partnerships, results, challenges, and how youth are engaged. Include any role of FAO or potential areas for support. - Replicability, lessons learned and recommendations (max. 400 words)
Share key lessons, challenges, financing experiences, and recommendations for scaling and policy.
All case studies must be submitted using the official template provided. Submissions that are incomplete or not aligned with the required format will not be considered.
