On 15 October, the World Food Forum (WFF) flagship event welcomed the finalists of the first ever Youth Policy and Deliberation Challenge (PDC).

The teams’ innovative ideas covered critical issues facing our agrifood systems: healthy diets, sustainable water management and addressing food waste. After months of mentorship and capacity development, the finalists presented their proposals and showed the audience the power of young leaders to reinvent agrifood systems policy.

Here are the winning teams:

 

  • Sustainable water management for agrifood systems transformation
    Utilizing data for sustainable crop selection
    Miriam Akinyi, Selma Bichbich and Wissal Chafik (Near East and North Africa)
    A digital technology solution, guiding farmers with data to maximize their water resources for greater crop yields through a crop suitability platform.

 

  • Addressing food waste – a win-win opportunity for climate and agrifood systems
    Beyond the date: from discard to action
    Chanel Perreault and Feyisayo Akande (North America)
    Smart meal labels to reduce meat-related food waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
