WFF Mexico Youth Chapter launched to advance youth-led action in agrifood systems

On 24 August, the World Food Forum (WFF) Mexico Youth Chapter was officially launched in Mexico City, bringing together more than 80 young people from the Chapter and representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations, government institutions, academia and other partners to explore opportunities for youth-led action and collaboration in agrifood systems transformation.

The launch was held in collaboration with FAO Country Office in Mexico, the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office in Mexico and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which leads the United Nations Interagency Youth Group in Mexico. The event introduced the Chapter and provided a platform for young people and institutional partners to exchange perspectives, share priorities and explore opportunities for collaboration.

During the event, members of the Chapter presented its background, objectives and membership as well as opportunities for young people and other stakeholders to engage with its work. The Chapter brings together young people working across different areas of agrifood systems and aims to connect their ideas and initiatives with wider national and global discussions.

The launch also highlighted the role of young people in advancing more sustainable, inclusive and resilient agrifood systems, including through initiatives focused on agroecology and food sovereignty. Representatives of the Chapter and institutional partners discussed the importance of youth participation and collaboration across sectors.

A key outcome of the launch was the signing of a Commitment Agreement by the participating institutions and the Chapter. The agreement establishes a shared commitment to supporting the Chapter’s activities and promoting meaningful youth engagement in agrifood systems across the country.

The launch marks the beginning of a new platform for youth-led collaboration in the country. Through connecting young people, initiatives and institutional partners, the Chapter will contribute to more inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems while bringing local perspectives into broader national and global discussions.
