World Food Forum Young Scientists Group launches second report
On 16 October, the World Food Forum Young Scientists Group (YSG) took the stage during the opening of the Science and Innovation Forum to officially launch their latest report: Digital technologies for multidimensional youth engagement in agrifood systems transformation.
As digital tools play an increasingly important role in the lives of young people and across various sectors, the report explores how these technologies can be used to engage youth in transforming agrifood systems. It examines how young people can use digital technologies, contribute to their development, participate in activities and projects through digital platforms and engage in decision-making processes that leverage these tools.
Drawing on a comprehensive literature review and survey data on lived experiences of youth, the report presents different case studies to highlight how digital technologies provide unique opportunities for young people to lead the transformation of our agrifood systems. At the same time, the report also flags challenges that are tied to the use of digital technologies, including accessibility and the need for training and education to fully benefit from these tools.
The report concludes with eight action-oriented recommendations to enhance the use and benefits of digital technologies for youth engagement and maximize their impact on agrifood systems transformation.
This report represents a milestone achievement for the 2023-2025 cohort of the WFF YSG, showcasing the potential of science-based initiatives to address youth concerns and drive change in the agrifood sector.
