NexusArt for FAO WFF: Science Meets Art for Sustainable Agrifood Systems
26/07/2024

NexusArt is an initiative led by Nexus Ness, a project supported by the PRIMA Foundation (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area) and coordinated by the Università per Stranieri di Perugia’s Water Resources Research and Documentation Center (WARREDOC). This initiative is part of the international Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and innovation action of the PRIMA NEXUS-NESS project, which merges academia, industries, and communities to foster water, food, energy, and ecosystem security.

The Mission of NexusArt

NexusArt aims to utilize contemporary art to engage with communities and address the climate crisis. Its overarching mission is to establish a collaborative framework involving engineers, architects, economists, sociologists, and humanities scholars through the power of art.

Upcoming Showcase at Manifesta 15

Currently, NexusArt is preparing to showcase the work of young artists from the Rome Academy of Fine Arts at the biennale’s Manifesta 15 in Barcelona. This event will be hosted by the UNESCO World Heritage Site Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau. Inspired by this initiative, NexusArt has launched a new project with the WFF: Science Meets Art for Sustainable Agrifood Systems.

The WFF Collaboration

In this new project, young artists selected by the Rome Academy of Fine Arts to be presented with themes related to the 2024 World Food Forum (WFF) theme, "Good Food for All, for Today and Tomorrow," by members of the WFF Young Scientists Group (YSG). This will help the artists gain a better understanding of issues in agrifood systems and explore creative ways to address them. The YSG Scientists will then guide the artists through their creative process to create science-backed art projects aligned with the WFF 2024 theme.

Award Ceremony

This initiative will culminate in an award ceremony on 14 October (11:00-14:00) at the FAO HQ in Rome, marking the first day of the 2024 WFF flagship event. The ceremony will bring together representatives from NexusArt, young contemporary artists, youth representatives from the WFF Young Scientists Group, staff of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and youth participants from across the world.
