WFF Switzerland Youth Chapter advances youth dialogue on the right to food
On 18 March, the World Food Forum (WFF) Switzerland Youth Chapter organized a hybrid event in Geneva focused on advancing understanding of the right to food and strengthening youth engagement on the topic. The initiative brought together students, experts from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and representatives from Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). In collaboration with the Agrifood Collective and the BREAD Collective, the Chapter expanded outreach and encouraged broader participation in discussions on agrifood systems and human rights.
The session featured Juan Echanove, Right to Food Team Lead at FAO, as the main speaker. The discussion was guided by questions collected in advance, which helped address key topics and concerns raised by participants.
Drawing on FAO’s expertise, the conversation explored human rights-based approaches to agrifood systems. Participants examined how young people can contribute to advancing the right to food through practical actions, initiatives and engagement at both national and international levels. The format allowed direct interaction with the speaker and encouraged open discussion on the relevance of the right to food in Switzerland and beyond.
The event also supported continued exchange among participants, creating opportunities for networking and follow up discussions. Its format encouraged active participation and facilitated connections between students, professionals and organizations working on agrifood systems and human rights.
By contributing to this initiative, the Chapter supported youth engagement in discussions on the right to food and strengthened understanding of its role in agrifood systems. Through collaboration with partners and dialogue with experts, the Chapter continues to promote inclusive participation and encourage young people to take part in shaping more equitable and sustainable agrifood systems.
