Strengthening collaboration between the Parliamentary Front Against Hunger and the WFF for youth engagement

04/12/2025

The World Food Forum (WFF)'s Global Youth Action Initiative (Youth Initiative), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean and the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Front Against Hunger in Lantin America and the Caribbean (PFH –LAC)) have strengthened their collaboration in 2025, creating new opportunities for youth engagement in policy making spaces for better food security and nutrition.

This partnership, spearheaded by FAO's Office of Youth and Women and its WFF Youth Initiative began in early 2025 in Santiago, Chile and has continued to grow, building stronger links between youth networks and regional legislative initiatives.

A key moment came in May during the event, “Todo comienza con la alimentación”, held at the University of Salamanca in Spain from 19 - 21 May.

During the discussions, parliamentarians from across the region, supported by the WFF Youth Initiative, launched the PFH –LAC Youth Working Group. This mechanism will work with young people through WFF National Youth Chapters and the WFF Youth Assembly, helping ensure that youth perspectives and proposals are reflected in legislation.

Following this event, WFF Youth Chapters across the region have strengthened their advocacy efforts through closer collaboration with the PFH-LAC Secretariat. Youth Chapters in Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica and Ecuador have engaged directly with national parliamentarians, fostering dialogue, building synergies, and linking youth engagement with legislative processes.

These efforts are contributing to a more inclusive policy environment in which young people's ideas and solutions are increasingly recognized. These country-level exchanges will inform a forthcoming regional report led by the FAO Regional Office in the region, with support from the Ibero-American Youth Organization. The report will serve as a reference for young people and legislative representatives, helping to align priorities and strengthen cooperation for more effective food security governance.
