WFF Peru Youth Chapter promotes dialogue on the role of women in diplomacy
On 7 May 2026, the World Food Forum (WFF) Peru Youth Chapter, in collaboration with Internacia, Power Mikuy, Women in Law and other youth-led and civil society organizations, organized an event titled "The Role of Women in Diplomacy" at the Faculty of Law of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) in Lima. The event brought together students, young professionals and representatives from civil society organizations to discuss women's leadership, youth participation and inclusion in international decision-making spaces.
Building on the Chapter's participation in the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), the event provided an opportunity to share reflections from the global forum and explore how international processes can strengthen the participation and leadership of young women. Discussions also connected these themes to the Chapter's broader work on agrifood systems and sustainable development.
Participants examined both progress and persistent challenges related to gender equality in diplomacy and multilateral spaces. While women's representation continues to grow, discussions highlighted ongoing barriers to leadership opportunities, equitable participation and access to decision-making processes. A recurring theme was the importance of creating enabling environments that equip young women with the knowledge, skills, mentorship and platforms needed to contribute meaningfully to global agendas.
As part of this effort, the Chapter launched a Practical Guide for Young Activists in International Spaces, developed to support young people, particularly young women, in navigating multilateral processes, strengthening advocacy skills and engaging more effectively in international discussions.
The event also showcased the work of the Chapter's Women's Empowerment Team, composed of 12 young women committed to advancing inclusive participation and leadership opportunities for youth.
Reflecting the team's collective vision, members emphasized:
"Female empowerment transcends borders, and the more united we are, the more we can achieve together. Through our work on agrifood systems and multilateral spaces, we continue building opportunities for young women to lead, advocate and create meaningful change."
By bringing together youth networks, academia and civil society, the event reinforced the importance of investing in young women's leadership and expanding pathways for participation in international processes. It also highlighted the role of youth-led initiatives in fostering more inclusive, representative and effective decision-making at local, national and global levels.
