Intergovernmental Processes
Connecting youth action to global decision-making – the Youth Assembly 's impact in intergovernmental processes
Through structured consultations, regional dialogues and thematic youth constituencies, the Youth Assembly gathers evidence-based recommendations from young stakeholders across agrifood sectors. These inputs are consolidated into youth-led recommendations that are shared with governments, international organizations and relevant stakeholders.
The Youth Assembly works closely with youth constituencies and partner organizations across the United Nations system and beyond to ensure youth perspectives are reflected in major UN intergovernmental processes. These include:
- the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD);
- the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC);
- the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD);
- the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF);
- the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum; the UN Water Conference; and
- the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
By facilitating the participation of youth representatives in these spaces, the Youth Assembly helps translate grassroots experiences and innovative ideas into actionable policy recommendations.
In doing so, the WFF Youth Assembly strengthens intergenerational dialogue and supports more inclusive, forward-looking policymaking. Its work ensures that young people are not only beneficiaries of agrifood systems policies, but active partners and contributors in shaping the decisions that will define the future of global agrifood systems. Through these efforts, the Youth Assembly contributes to building a more inclusive multilateral system where youth leadership and expertise are recognized as essential to sustainable agrifood systems transformation.
