2025 engagements

In 2025, the World Food Forum (WFF) Youth Assembly, in collaboration with its partners, produced a global youth recommendations document on “Agrifood systems and NDCs 3.0” through a multi-modal consultation process. The process engaged more than 300 young leaders, policymakers and experts through a global online consultation and a hybrid consultation held during the WFF flagship event in Rome, generating youth priorities on capacity building, finance, mitigation and adaptation.

Additionally, in 2025, the WFF Youth Assembly conducted a youth consultation on mainstreaming agrifood systems within just transition processes. Young participants strengthened their understanding of just transition and provided youth perspectives and recommendations on the role of agrifood systems in socially inclusive climate transitions.

Tentative 2026 engagements

The 2026 engagements include activities that position youth as credible partners in implementing, assessing and strengthening climate action in agrifood systems. The Youth Assembly will advance youth-led advocacy on agrifood systems with the focus on three pillars: NDC 3.0 implementation, Loss and Damage and Just Transition. Specifically, the Youth Assembly will strengthen youth capacity on NDC 3.0 implementation, document youth-generated evidence and perspectives on climate-induced loss and damage and promote a just transition in agrifood systems.

Key activities include:

• a capacity-building session enabling young people to monitor whether national governments are effectively meeting the global commitment to include youth in NDCs;
• the collection of youth-led case studies on climate-induced loss and damage to inform international, regional and national policymaking through a concise policy brief for decision-makers;
• Youth dialogues and learning sessions on Just Transition concepts in agrifood systems, linking climate action with decent work, livelihoods, gender equality and social protection.
