Nutrition

In 2026, the World Food Forum (WFF) Youth Assembly will focus on two complementary thematic lines of action under the thematic area of nutrition: (i) traditional foods and the impact of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and (ii) nutrition equity for young women and girls. The objectives include identifying youth perspectives on transforming food environments to reduce ultra-processed food consumption, promote traditional food through youth led food catalogue, and generate a youth-led statement documenting the barriers and challenges affecting young women’s and girls’ nutrition.

2025 engagements

In 2025, the World Food Forum (WFF) Youth Assembly, in collaboration with its partners, convened a global capacity-building session on “Understanding the role of nutrition and healthy diets in agrifood systems transformation”. The session aimed to strengthen young people’s knowledge and capacities on the role of nutrition within agrifood systems, introducing participants to the core principles of healthy diets as jointly defined by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The outcomes of the session was presented during the World Food Forum 2025 flagship week, amplifying youth perspectives on nutrition within global agrifood systems transformation efforts.

Tentative 2026 engagements

In 2026, the Youth Assembly will work with partners to strengthen youth capacity to advocate for culturally appropriate and environmentally sustainable diets, and to enhance the leadership of young women and girls in promoting equitable nutrition.

Key activities include:

  • Jointly develop a youth-led process to produce a food catalogue of traditional foods in collaboration with WFF Young Chefs Programme
  • Capacity building sessions to strengthen youth knowledge on UPFs
  • Conduct youth-led consultations to identify barriers to adequate nutrition, gap in access to services and information, and roles of young women in household and community nutrition
